Becox the label, started out, i'd summarise it as, from Love.

Jade Seah created maryjulian out of a desire to design flattering, quality garments that make women look beautiful and most importantly, feel good while wearing them.

To be honest, when i took a first quick look at the copy points for this write up, i was having a really busy week, to the point, instead of replying emails everyday, i reply emails only once every 3 - 4 days. Badass not? So anyway. When i took my first quick look at the copy points, i am ashamed of myself to think "Grandmother story, indeed" Jade if you're ever reading this, i am sorry!!!

Becox this is one of the most touching story i've heard and i am happy Jade shares it with us!

"Mary and Julian are my grandparents, and theirs is to me the love story of a lifetime. They started dating in secret as the family objected to the relationship - Grandpa is 13 years older than Gran, and not a wealthy man. When word of their secret meetings reached the family’s ears, unbeknownst to Gran, Grandpa was told by Gran’s meddling aunt that she was already engaged to someone else and had been hiding this fact from him from the start. He was devastated and went quietly away.

In a time of no phones, pagers and mobiles, the matter was never clarified as false, and the two simply lost contact overs the years. More than three years went by, with neither having the heart to be with anyone else. As fate would have it, one day they happened to bump into each other on the street. The truth was cleared, they knew they wanted to be together for life, and they got married. They had five children and 13 grandchildren, and lived a happy and simple life together for over fifty years.

 My grandfather passed away three years ago, and Gran still feels the lost. Certain things, like taking a particular bus route that they used to enjoy together, or enjoying pizza and fried chicken on Sundays together, or even cooking certain dishes he used to love, still remind her very much of him. It’s this ‘never-ending love story’ that inspired me to create maryjulian, and their love inspired many of the designs for the label."

Jade's "Gran", Mary is a Peranakan lady and has always stressed the importance of being neat and presentable. Gosh i don't wanna think how i'd fair if i am born in a Peranakan family. I'd be the black sheep i'm sure. Lol. Rotten apple, literately. Smelly and dirty AND UNTIDY =X HAHA.

"You’d never catch her or even Grandpa, while he was still with us, even going to the nearby shops or market dressed sloppily. There’s always been a sort of basic minimum standard, like combing one’s hair and wearing clean and neatly pressed clothes."

So this is why Jade is taking "presentable" to another level! That on top of being presentable, we can feel beautiful. Although, i believe i can start on working on the hygiene and tidiness part first. Lolol.

But that's just me. Haha.

Love that it's so airy and the colours are so happy ^.^

If you're wondering, quality of the clothes is a given cox Jade herself handpicked all the items and have them altered, added/ remove stuff to the items before she puts them on herself, to make sure the fitting and cut is good. So just SHOP, it'd fit. Haha ^.^
